How to use a 40ft container tilter to lift a 40ft container?

Sep 24, 2025

When using a 40ft container tilter to lift a 40ft container, the following steps and precautions must be followed to ensure a safe and efficient operation:

Pre-Operation Preparation of the container tilter
Check the Equipment Condition
Confirm that the container tilting mechanism's hydraulic system, electrical system, and structural components (such as the frame, rollers, and locking devices) are free of damage or leaks.
Check the tilting angle range (typically 0° to 90°) to ensure it meets loading and unloading requirements.
Check the rated load on the equipment nameplate to ensure the maximum load capacity of the tilting mechanism is not exceeded (a fully loaded 40-foot container can weigh up to 30.5 tons, including the container's own weight).

Securing the Tilt Device
Place the tilt device on a flat, hard surface and secure it with ground locks or outriggers to prevent it from shifting or tipping during operation.
If using a trailer-mounted tilt device, lower the outriggers and ensure the vehicle is stable.

Attaching the Container
Place the container in the designated position on the tilt device of the container tilter(such as on the rear locking pins or rollers), ensuring that the bottom corner fittings of the container align with the locking mechanism of the tilt device.

Secure the front and rear ends of the container with locking devices (such as twist locks or rotary locks) to prevent it from sliding during tilting.

Safety Precautions of the container tilter
Load Limitation
Overloading is strictly prohibited to prevent damage to the tilting mechanism or overturning.
If loading bulk materials (such as ore or grain), ensure the tilting mechanism is properly sealed to prevent leakage.

Environmental Adaptability

Operation is prohibited in strong winds (over 10 m/s) or on uneven surfaces to prevent container sway or tipping of the tilting mechanism.
Preheat the hydraulic system before operation in winter to prevent excessive oil viscosity due to low temperatures.

Maintenance and Inspection
Regularly check the hydraulic oil level and quality, and replace any aging seals.
Clean the tilting mechanism surface to prevent rust that may affect its structural strength.
