What is a port hopper?

Nov 19, 2024

As indispensable equipment in port bulk cargo handling operations, the function of a port hopper is to efficiently and safely transfer bulk cargo from a ship or other means of transport to the shore yard, or reverse loading from yard to means of transport. The design and manufacture of the hopper need to give full consideration to the characteristics of the bulk cargo such as type, particle size, density, etc., as well as the operating environment and efficiency requirements of the harbour.

Product structure and function

A typical harbour hopper mainly consists of a hopper body, support, suspension device, unloading mechanism, dustproof device and so on. The hopper body is usually a closed container, which is used to carry bulk cargo; the bracket is responsible for supporting the whole hopper and connecting with the crane and other equipment; the suspension device is used to hang the hopper on the crane; the unloading mechanism controls the opening and closing of the hopper to realise the unloading of bulk cargo; and the dust prevention device is used to reduce the dust flying during the unloading process, to protect the environment and the operating personnel.

Product Classification

Fixed hopper: installed in a fixed position, through the conveyor belt or other conveying equipment will be fed into the hopper.
Mobile hopper: can be moved along the track or ground, convenient to work in different locations.
ECO Dedusted hopper: Used for materials with serious dust, such as cement clinker, coal mine and so on.

Product features and advantages

As indispensable equipment in modern harbours, the design of the port hopper fully reflects the concept of high efficiency, safety and environmental protection. By optimising the unloading process, the operation cycle is shortened; the design of large capacity reduces the number of loading and unloading times and improves the working efficiency; at the same time, the hopper can be customised according to different types of cargoes and operational requirements, which is highly adaptable; equipped with a variety of safety devices, it ensures the safety of the operators and the equipment; in addition, the application of the dust-proofing device effectively reduces the dust pollution and improves the working environment.

Product application

Harbour hoppers are widely used in loading and unloading various bulk cargoes such as coal, ore, grain, cement, etc. In modern harbours, hoppers are usually used for loading and unloading of bulk cargoes. In modern ports, hoppers are usually used in conjunction with automated loading and unloading systems to achieve efficient and intelligent operations.
