How about general operation of remote control grab?

Feb 27, 2026

To ensure safe operation, optimal performance, and longevity of the remote control grab, operators must adhere to the following procedures and preventive maintenance guidelines.

1. Initial Setup and Pre-Operation Inspection

Safety Compliance: All operators must strictly comply with accident prevention regulations and relevant safety operating procedures for lifting equipment.

First Use Inspection:

Use a crane to lift the remote-control grab and check the hydraulic oil level, as indicated in the provided diagram.

Hydraulic Fluid: If leakage occurred during transport, refill immediately. At normal ambient temperatures, it is recommended to use an anti-wear hydraulic oil with an ISO VLP HLP VG46 viscosity grade.

Visual Check: Inspect the external surfaces of the grab to ensure there are no signs of damage or oil leaks.

Mechanical Check: Verify that all bolts and connecting parts are securely tightened.

Rigging Inspection:

Check the wedge socket, wedge, and wire rope clips before use. Ensure they meet technical requirements and are tightened properly.

Replace Damaged Parts: Components must be replaced immediately if any damage is detected, including but not limited to deformed shackles, cracked wedge sockets, or damaged, cracked, or excessively worn wire rope clip nuts.

2. Functional Testing

No-Load Test: Conduct an empty-load test to ensure all rotating parts operate flexibly. Verify that the remote control grab opens and closes accurately and smoothly without any hesitation.

3. Operational Guidelines

Handling Precautions: To prevent structural damage, avoid impacting the grab against materials, lifting equipment, or the ship's side at high speed.

Balance Frame: Ensure the balance frame on the upper beam swings freely. The wire rope sets should be able to swing freely and maintain a horizontal position during operation.

Positioning:

When positioning the remote control grab bucket over the material, keep it as vertical as possible to allow the middle beam to lower smoothly.

Avoid excessive tilting. A large inclination angle creates significant lateral force on the cylinder piston rod, which can hinder its return stroke and cause damage.

4. Lubrication and Maintenance

Lubrication Points: Regularly lubricate all rotating shaft pins, rope guide devices, and roller bearings according to the following schedule:

Before Each Use: Lubricate before the grab starts working.

During Continuous Operation: Lubricate at least once every 24 hours of continuous operation.

After Each Use: Lubricate after each working period.

Shutdown and Storage:

Cleaning: When the remote control grab is taken out of service, wash it thoroughly to remove any material embedded in the middle beam or lodged in the gaps between rotating parts.

Position: The grab must be stored in a closed position.

Long-Term Storage: If the remote control grab will not be used for an extended period, apply sufficient grease or lubricating oil to all hinge points to prevent corrosion and seizing.
