The container spreader is a heavy‑duty lifting device used in ports, wharves, and logistics hubs. It connects to the top corner castings of standard marine shipping containers via special locking pins (twistlocks), enabling safe lifting and movement of containers. This allows cranes, reach stackers, or straddle carriers to pick up containers rapidly for loading, unloading, and stacking operations across various work sites.

 

How does it work?

 

 

The spreader is suspended beneath the crane hook. The crane operator maneuvers the spreader and positions it directly above the container.

 

The telescopic arms of the spreader descend to align with the container top corner castings. Twistlocks insert into corner holes and rotate to securely fasten the four corners of the container.

 

The crane hoists upwards. The spreader distributes weight evenly across four corner castings, enabling safe, stable and efficient lifting and handling of the container.

Repair and Maintenance

 

 

(1) Twistlock

 Each twist lock should be lubricated with grease (ZG‑3) on a semi‑annual basis.


 The hinge points of the connecting rod should be lubricated frequently.


 After each operation, inspect the twist lock for any signs of damage.


 The bearing block of the connecting rod should be lubricated regularly.

 

(2) Periodic Maintenance Inspection

 After 50h or 250h initial operation: Retighten all fasteners and lubricate all lubrication‑points.

 

 Every 100h or 1500 containers: Check twist‑lock assembly and fasteners; retighten if loose.

 

 Every 1000h or 15000 containers: Lubricate all lubrication‑points.

 

 Every 1500h or 25000 containers: Disassemble, inspect, clean and reassemble twist‑lock structures; replace defective parts.
