How to use a 40‘ container tilter to lift a 20’ container?

Sep 25, 2025

When using a 40-ft container tilter to lift a 20-foot container tilter, ensure equipment compatibility, strictly follow operating specifications, and implement safety measures. Specific steps and precautions are as follows:

Equipment Inspection and Preparation
Confirm equipment compatibility: Verify the specifications of the 40-foot container tilter to ensure it supports loading and operating 20-foot containers. Some equipment may require adjusting the fork pocket spacing or installing adapter accessories to achieve compatibility.
Check equipment condition: Ensure the container tilter's hydraulic system, structural components (such as the main beam and fork pockets), and safety devices (such as limiters and emergency brakes) are in good condition to avoid operating with malfunctions.
Prepare auxiliary tools: Prepare auxiliary equipment, such as a forklift and slings, as needed to place 20-foot containers on the tipper accurately.

Safe Operating Procedures
Adhere to the rated load: Strictly adhere to the maximum load limit indicated on the container tilter nameplate. Do not overload the equipment. The weight of a 20-foot container must be within the equipment's load capacity.
Secure the container: Position the container in the center and back of the tipper fork pocket to ensure a stable center of gravity. If there is a risk of the container sliding, secure it with straps or locks.
Operational Sequence:
Before starting: Ensure the tipper is on level ground, release the floor lock (if equipped), and place the operating handle in the safe position.
Lifting: Press and hold the UP button and slowly raise the container to the target angle (usually -10° to 90°). Observe the container during the process to avoid tilting or shaking.

Safety Measures During Operation of the Container Tilter
Personnel Protection: Operators must wear protective gear such as hard hats and non-slip shoes, and are prohibited from standing under containers or within the tipper's operating range.
Environmental Assessment: Before operation, check the ground's flatness, load-bearing capacity, and surrounding obstacles to ensure there are no factors that could affect equipment stability.
