How does a hydraulic grab work?

Jan 16, 2025

It is mainly designed to handle powder and fine bulk materials such as chemicals, fertilizers, grain, coal, coke, iron ore, sand, particle construction materials smashed rocks, etc. It is widely used in ports, steel plants, power stations, ships, and garbage treatment plants, and it is used together with tower cranes, ship cranes, ship unloaders, traveling cranes, and other types of cranes. The hydraulic grab has its hydraulic system, the key elements of which are of recognized brands imported aboard which ensure the high performance of the grab.

Detailed Operation Process
Opening the Jaws: When the hydraulic pump supplies oil to the hydraulic cylinder, the piston inside the cylinder extends outward due to pressure, pushing the jaws of the grab open.
Closing the Jaws: When the hydraulic pump stops supplying oil or changes the direction of the oil supply, the pressure inside the hydraulic cylinder decreases. The piston retracts inward under the action of reset devices such as springs, driving the jaws of the grab to close and thus grasp the object.
Control System
The hydraulic grab's control system usually adopts an electrical system. It consists of sensors, controllers, and actuators.

Sensors: Detect information such as objects' position, weight, and shape.
Controller: Receives signals from sensors and generates control signals based on requirements.
Actuator: Drives the hydraulic system to realize the movement of the grab.
